Description
Kilims are decorative floor coverings that are produced in central Asia. It is an item found in every household of Turkmen tribes. In Turkmen culture, kilims are gifted to young married couples to decorate their new home. Kilims are handwoven from mountain sheep wool which makes it very durable. Kilims are produced by tightly interweaving the warp and weft strands of the weave to produce a flat surface with no pile. Kilim weaves are tapestry weaves, technically weft-faced plain weaves, that is, the horizontal weft strands are pulled tightly downward so that they hide the vertical warp strands. Various attractive motifs are used in kilims, a widely used motif is the elibelinde, a stylized female figure, which represents motherhood and fertility. Geometric patterns and shapes are also used in handwoven kilims. Kilims are best option to create an authentic and traditional living space.
At Yamil Craft, our rug production follows eco-friendly practices that have been passed down through generations. Instead of using machines, we rely on traditional techniques to create our rugs, thereby avoiding the emission of greenhouse gases. Additionally, we prioritize the use of biodegradable wool, and our rugs can be used for decades to minimize landfill waste.
Care instructions:
- Vacuum it regularly using a standard vacuum cleaner at least once every week to maintain the cleanliness of your rug and prevent dirt and dust from accumulating deeply
- Avoid placing it in direct sunlight or near a heat source for an extended period. Prolonged exposure to sunlight can cause the vibrant colors of the rug to fade over time.
- Effectively remove spills and stains with a damp cloth and mild soap by gently blotting the affected area. Avoid rubbing excessively as this can potentially worsen the stain and harm the integrity of the fibers. If stain persists, seek professional cleaning services. It is crucial to refrain from using harsh chemicals or bleach on your rug, as their abrasive properties can lead to color fading and damage the luminous property of the wool fibers.
